Simplicity was founded in 1927 by James J. Shapiro in New York with the vision to make patterns affordable and easy for the home sewist. In the Great Depression Simplicity was popular as it was cheaper than buying clothes. In Australia Simplicity sewing patterns were available from the 1940's and has helped many people over the years -learn how to sew.
